US Vice President Vance and NSA Waltz will visit India this month
US Vice President J.D. Vance, along with his wife Usha Chilukuri Vance and children, is scheduled to visit India later this month. The visit coincides with the US National Security Advisor’s trip and is expected to include meetings with Prime Minister Modi, along with visits to Jaipur and Agra.

US Vice President J.D. Vance and Family Scheduled to Visit India Later This Month
US Vice President J.D. Vance, his wife Usha Chilukuri Vance, and their children are scheduled to visit India later this month, sources in Delhi have confirmed. J.D. Vance, who met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Paris and Washington earlier this year, had hinted at his desire to visit India, particularly for a “legacy visit” for his family, whose wife is of South Indian origin.
US National Security Advisor's Visit This Month
The US Vice President’s visit will coincide with the planned visit of US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, officials said. J.D. Vance's schedule is expected to be "largely private," though he is expected to meet Modi, who will host a dinner for the Vance family in Delhi. During his four-day trip, Vance is scheduled to visit Jaipur and Agra, part of the popular "Golden Triangle" tour for tourists.
Likely Dates: April 21-24
Sources mentioned that the visit will likely take place from April 21-24, though the dates may adjust depending on Modi's schedule, as the prime minister is scheduled to travel to Saudi Arabia from April 22-24 for a long-delayed bilateral visit.
US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz’s Agenda
During his visit, Waltz will hold talks with NSA Ajit Doval about the successor mechanism to the India-US Initiative for Critical and Emerging Technologies (ICET), which has now paved the way for transforming the relationship using strategic technologies. Waltz is also scheduled to give a speech at the India-US Forum, organized by the Delhi-based Ananta Centre.
US President Donald Trump Likely to Visit India at Year-End
The visits of Vance and Waltz, following the visit of US Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard and before Defense Secretary Peter Hegseth's visit this summer, are expected to be in preparation for US President Donald Trump's visit to India later this year. Trump is expected to attend the Quad summit and sign the first part of the bilateral trade deal between India and the US, currently under negotiation.
First Visits After the US "Reciprocal Tariffs"
These visits will be the first after the US administration’s "reciprocal tariffs," including a 26% tax on Indian goods. This will give New Delhi a chance to respond to the unilateral action taken by the US, which has caused global market indices to fall, possibly leading to further economic disruptions.
Controversial Foreign Trips of US Vice President Vance
Vance's visit to India will come after two controversial foreign trips as US Vice President. His first trip was to France and Germany in February, where he faced criticism for his remarks about freedom of expression and migration. In March, he traveled to Greenland with Mrs. Vance and Waltz, reiterating Trump's claims on the Danish-controlled island. The trip backfired when Vance stayed at a remote US military base and criticized Denmark for its handling of Greenland's security.
Vance's Visit Postponed Several Times
According to US-based news portal Politico, Vance was initially scheduled to visit Delhi last month, but his plans changed multiple times. An advance team finally made a reconnaissance visit to Delhi and other destinations in late March, and the schedule is expected to be finalized soon.
