Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag Help Rajasthan Royals to a Stunning 50-Run Win Against Punjab Kings
Yashasvi Jaiswal (67) and Riyan Parag (43 not out), along with a disciplined performance by the bowlers, helped Rajasthan Royals register a stunning 50-run win against Punjab Kings in the 18th match of the IPL on Saturday. Batting first, Rajasthan scored a mammoth total of 205 runs for four wickets.
Punjab's Disappointing Performance
In reply, Punjab could only score 155 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Punjab's campaign at their home ground started disappointingly. Apart from Nehal Vadhera (62) and Glenn Maxwell (30), the performance of the other batsmen was below par. Middle-order batsman Vadhera raised Punjab's hopes by hitting four fours and three sixes in his 41-ball innings. But apart from Maxwell, no other batsman could survive for long against Rajasthan's disciplined bowling.
Jofra Archer: The Most Successful Bowler
Jofra Archer (three wickets for 25 runs) was the most successful bowler for Rajasthan. Sandeep Sharma and Mahish Teekshan conceded fewer runs and took two wickets each. Kumar Karthikeya and Wanindu Hasaranga got one wicket each.
Earlier, Rajasthan performed brilliantly under the leadership of their regular captain, Sanju Samson. Yashasvi Jaiswal, whose bat had been quiet in the first three matches, exploded in this match. His innings helped Rajasthan achieve the best score of the current IPL season. Jaiswal played a brilliant knock of 67 runs with the help of three fours and five sixes in 45 balls. His innings began with brilliant strokeplay, and he gained momentum during the powerplay. In the fourth over, he hit two sixes off Marco Johnson.
Jaiswal’s Stormy Batting
This young left-handed batsman completed his half-century in a brilliant manner by hitting a four off Yuzvendra Chahal. He maintained his dominance before being bowled by a slow ball from Lockie Ferguson. Ferguson also dismissed captain Sanju Samson (38 runs off 26 balls). Both openers were dismissed at a score of 123 runs. After this, Riyan Parag took over the innings. This batsman from Assam continued his excellent form by scoring an unbeaten 43 runs off 25 balls, with the help of three fours and three sixes.
Ferguson Gets Two Wickets
Parag hit two consecutive sixes off Johnson's ball in the 18th over. However, he got a lifeline on the score of 32 when Johnson dropped the return catch. Parag's patience allowed batsmen like Shimron Hetmyer (20 off 12 balls) and Dhruv Jurel (13 not out off 5 balls) to play freely.
The last over, bowled by Marcus Stoinis, yielded 19 runs, and Jurel showcased his finishing skills. He hit a six over deep midwicket on a low full toss and then cleverly hit a four over short third man to help Rajasthan Royals cross the 200-run mark for the first time this season.
For Punjab, Ferguson took two wickets for 37 runs in his four overs. Johnson (1/45) and Arshdeep Singh (1/35) also performed well. Maxwell bowled one over for just six runs. Stoinis conceded 48 runs in his spell.
