New Delhi: Five out of the seven newly sworn-in ministers, including Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, are facing criminal cases. This information came to light based on the affidavits submitted by the ministers ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. The details were revealed by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) on Thursday.
Rekha Gupta, the newly sworn-in Chief Minister of Delhi from the BJP, is one of the ministers facing criminal charges. Minister Ashish Sood is also facing serious criminal allegations. Financially, two of the Delhi ministers are billionaires. Among them, BJP MLA from Rajouri Garden, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, has the highest assets worth ₹248.85 crore. Kapil Mishra, representing the Karawal Nagar constituency, has the lowest assets, totaling ₹1.06 crore.
Among the seven cabinet ministers, two are billionaires. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who won from the Rajouri Garden constituency, declared assets worth ₹248.85 crore in his affidavit. The average assets of the seven Delhi ministers stand at ₹56.03 crore. All seven ministers declared their liabilities, with Parvesh Sahib Singh from New Delhi constituency having the highest debt of ₹74.36 crore. Six out of the seven ministers have declared educational qualifications of graduate level or higher, while one minister has completed only the 12th grade.
These changes have made the political scenario in Delhi even more intriguing. The issue of ministers facing criminal charges has led to criticism from opposition parties. They are demanding a stricter anti-corruption system.
